We friendly invite you all to be involved in the DRC situation as peacemakers through your prayers, actions, and assistance. It is too much to see so many people be killed for nothing.”

Since we won independence from Belgium in 1960, the DRC, a nation of nearly 66 million that covers an area as large as Western Europe, has expressed a clear and achievable plan for human rights in political manifestos that address intolerance, discrimination, and the fight against impunity. But we still have very serious concerns, particularly with violence and the fragility of the peace agreements in the eastern area of this country.

In the past year alone, hundreds of civilians have been killed and thousands of women and girls raped. For a long time now, the eastern area of DRC has noted many displaced people. In just these last few weeks ago of tensions we took into account about two million, according to UN statistics. The situation is becoming very much worse, indeed intolerable.

These days many people are homeless once again because of the war between Laurent Nkunda and the Government of Congo – about 2.5 million, among them so many women and children who are dying in the forest and raped under rains.

It doesn’t make sense to have an ambition of uniting the territories by killing people of this country, which recently had democratic elections and is trying to rebuild its infrastructure. Furthermore, it’s not understandable, as we are celebrating this year the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to see Congolese people arbitrarily deprived of their property.

The UN is incapable of feeding all these people. The information we have is that General Laurent Nkunda is using Rwandese solders to fight the Government of Congo. If that is the case, why the war between these two neighboring countries? Many innocents have been killed.

It seems that the attitude of the rest of the international community, the grand powerful countries and the sister NGOs, is not fully engaged to terminate this routine of war in the eastern area of the DRC. Disregard and contempt for human rights in this area have resulted in barbarous acts which outrage the conscience of humankind. Yet the advent of a world in which human beings shall enjoy freedom from fear and want has been proclaimed as the highest aspiration of the common people.

I do assure you that in the area around Goma people have been killed just recently. We friendly invite you all to be involved in the DRC situation as peacemakers through your prayers, actions, and assistance. It is too much to see so many people be killed for nothing.

Congolese people are human beings like others, working to accomplish God’s mission in their land, which entails nothing other than recognizing and proclaiming that both men and women are created in the image and likeness of God to live a life of dignity and fulfillment, and to enjoy their rights with respect for one another.
