Water is a precious and scarce resource: Take shorter showers or use less water all week.

Level: Personal—Peace Principle: Witness

This week’s featured story came in from Chicago, IL, USA:

After a long, not so relaxing weekend, I was really looking forward to a soothing bubble bath to recenter myself.  But after reading This Week’s Peace Action, I will go without this luxury.  And I will do so in honor of World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

The World Day to Combat Desertification is observed every year on 17 June. This year, the Day’s theme is “Conserving land and water = Securing our common future “.

In my mind this year’s theme rings true especially for peacebuilders like you and me.  Access to natural resources is a significant part of many nations’ development and survival.  In some cases, violent conflict can break out over resources.

In my effort to build a better world for future generations, I will not take a bath this week.  In doing so, I will experience what many people without access to clean water experience on a daily basis.  I will also take shorter showers, thinking every minute that the water I would have used is such a precious and life-sustaining resource for others.  This week I will do my part to secure a common future for all; one without violence, deprivation, and want.

Saving water saves lives.

Join me in helping to conserve water.  Take shorter showers and share your reflections here:
