Peace X Peace calls for an immediate end to violence in Gaza and Israel
We are deeply saddened by the ongoing violence we are witnessing in the Middle East. There are five dead in Israel and the death toll in the Gaza Strip has risen to 162. These are more than statistics – they are human beings. These are our sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, and families. Peace X Peace stands for nonviolence and equal human rights for all, and we are advocating for peace in the region.
We call for an immediate end to the use of violence by all parties, an end to the supply of armaments by other nations, and we call on our global community to facilitate a ceasefire followed by a just peace that guarantees basic human rights and benefits all the people of the region.
Over the last 10 years our founder, Patricia Smith Melton, has spent many weeks and months in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, nurturing friendships and interviewing scores of women and men in both populations. She shares:
“In recent months Israelis and Palestinians have been sending messages via the Internet expressing their love for each other and their wish for peace rather than war. These so-called ordinary people know that talking, caring, and reaching across the divides is the road to better lives for all. Their leaders are failing them, right now. We must not. We must reach out in any way we can to help the Palestinian and Israeli people stop the bombing.”
As always, we want to hear your voice. Please comment on this blog and send us your first-person perspective for this website. We welcome every point of view that does not advocate violence.
