Circle Principles

A circle is the oldest form of gathering for human beings. Everyone is equal in a circle so cooperation, sharing and, inclusion surface more readily. The resulting connections, information gathering, feedback, and reflection support the conditions necessary for peace.

Circle Principles inform all Peace X Peace e-media communications and member activities. They are guidelines for productive, peacebuilding exchanges.

Circle Principles are:

• Communicate honestly and thoughtfully.
• Listen actively without judgment.
• Invite silence when in doubt.
• Affirm one another.
• Offer experience, not advice.
• Share leadership and resources.
• Build consensus.
• Maintain confidentiality.

When individuals and groups follow Circle Principles, previously silenced voices are heard. New understandings lead to collective wisdom that ripples across each member’s web of relationships. Peace grows.
