How did Peace X Peace begin?
In January 2002, Patricia Smith Melton, (who would later become the founder and first executive director of Peace X Peace), facilitated a three-day forum involving a Circle of six women experts in peace and women's rights issues. The group represented a mix of religious beliefs and cultures. Their discussions focused on the question, "What is peace, and how can women be empowered to bring it?"

The conclusions they reached came to define the vision and mission of Peace X Peace. Women's groups and their perspectives must be joined together into a powerful critical mass that over time can effect a conscious shift in societies around the world away from violence and war, and towards peaceful resolution. Peace X Peace was officially established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in October 2002.

Who sits on your Board?
Peace by Peace has a diverse volunteer Board of Directors. The women who took part in the Original Dialogue that created the principles of Peace X Peace are now members of the Peace X Peace Advisory Council, along with other experts in community building, women's rights, and social justice. The members of the Advisory Council provide ongoing guidance and connections as we grow and develop.

Peace X Peace is a 501(3)(c) nonprofit that spends 94 cents of every dollar on achieving its mission.
